Techniques of Spray Tanning

The technique of spray tanning allows an ultra fine mist to be distributed evenly over the body making it easy to achieve a smooth, streak free finish. You also avoid the risk of over tanning that you might get with fake tan products that rely on application by hand.

The active ingredient in a spray tanning solution is called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple carbohydrate derived from sugar cane. The spray tanning solution which i offer to my clients contain eco-friendly, organic and 100% paraben free ingredients. It is made only using eco-cert DHA. During a spray tan DHA interacts with your dead skin cells on the upper layer of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead skin cells, a colour occurs. (similar to when a bitten apple is left out in oxygen, after a few hours it browns in colour) Skin takes alot of wear and tear so it naturally regenerates itself causing your tan to eventually fade.

Quick and convenient - I can offer a spray tan in the comfort of your own home, at a time convenient for you and without the fear of any mess left behind. A Full body spray tan on average will take between 10-20minutes and for your convenience can be washed free from the skin within a minimum of 1 hour and coninue to develop while you are out and about.

Evens out skin tone - A tan will minimise the appearance of all skin imperfections including cellulite and varicose veins.

Natural, even fade - Vani-t Velocity on average will last 7-10 days depending on how will it is looked after and preparation prior to tanning

Feed your skin with beneficial ingredients -Vani-t Velocity contain eco-friendly, organic and 100% paraben free ingredients. Please be aware of cheap fake tanning solutions and read up on your solution you are using. Many self tanners use chemical fragrances which may cause skin allergies or trigger asthma. Some contain parabens. Parabens are preservatives which can effect the endocrine system and cause other proven health concerns.

Preparation

The preparation before a spray tan is crucial .....

Shave or wax at least 24/48hrs before tanning.

Exfoliate the night before your tanning appointment (Exfoliating continuous for two days prior for best results) paying particular attention to dry areas such as knees, elbows and feet. Full exposure to the skin's protein surface is required for the tan to work. Without a good base your tan will not last. Do not leave exfoliating to the day of your appointment.

Once exfoliated, apply moisturiser to the knees, hands/wrists, feet/ankles only if needed (extra dry)

Over night you will produce a new top layer of skin ready to be tanned

Very important - Moisturisers, creams and lotions will act as a barrier to the tanning solution which could very likely cause your tan to become patchy if still sitting on your skin at the time of your spray tan.

Avoid showering too close to your appointment time!! A tan's development colour will develop best on a slightly acidic skin which means your skin's PH balance needs time to fall after showering. The lower the PH of your skin the more golden brown the tan will turn. A damp skin can also cause your tan to develop patchy! A damp skin will also cause a patchy tan!

Keep your skin free of any deodorants and perfumes as these can also prohibit the absorption of the tan solution. Do not use baby/facial wipes to remove deodorants and perfumes as these can cause the tan to turn green on the skin.

After Care

Wear dark loose clothing after your spray tan, any tight clothing or underwear can cause wear marks.

Do not shower until after your given development time

After showering pat dry only

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!! this will prolong your tan. Try to avoid any products containing oil as these will strip your tan

After 6 days start to LIGHTLY exfoliate to ensure an even fade.

long exposure to water, chlorine and sweating from exercise will strip/fade your tan.

Please remember that your tan does not contain any SPF factor and you should wear sun protection as normal. You will still catch the sun through your tan.

Tanning enhancers are great for prolonging and getting the most from your tan. Lotions containing a subtle bronzing agent will keep your tan radiant and lengthen its life.

What to expect from your home visit..

*Please allow 10 minutes either side of your scheduled appointment time for my arrival

* Skin is assessed. Condition, prep, sensitivity to previous tanning products, allergies etc

*5 minutes set up in a space with access to a power socket and enough lighting. Ceiling height will need to be considered also

*My equipment includes a tent and an extractor fan to eliminate any minimal over spray

*Disposable underwear is available on request including knickers, hair nets, strapless bras, nose plugs (for pregnancy)

*Clients can wear and be sprayed in whatever they feel most comfortable

*Moisturiser will be applied by myself to key areas if needed before treatment

*Gel nails can be wiped over after treatment

*The skin is dried after initial spray

*loose clothing to be applied after treatment. Try to avoid tight clothing or towelled dressing gowns

*Timings and aftercare discussed with client to achieve best suitable depth of colour
